United Tractors sees heavy equipment sales falling a fifth in 2013 | Company data

(The Insider Stories) – Indonesia heavy machineries company PT United Tractors Tbk (UNTR) is forecasting a 19.4% drop in the number of units it can sell this year as businesses refrain from expanding mines and plantations with global commodity prices sluggish.

United Tractors may only sell 5,000 units of heavy equipment including Komatsu, UD Trucks, and Scania compared with 6,200 units in 2012, president director Djoko Pranoto says Monday after a shareholders general meeting.

United Tractors is trying to make up for the drop by boosting other ventures, such as by producing 5,000 dead weight tonne tug boats and barges and setting up a boat repair facility in South Kalimantan province to accommodate miners seeking to transport output.

Finance Director Gidion Hasan said the company has recently raised its ownership in coal miner PT Asmin Bara Beronang to 75%. United Tractors, through its subsidiaries, controls nine coal mining concessions in South Sumatra, South Kalimantan, and Central Kalimantan with combined coal reserves of 424 million tons.
