The full story is below:
The Royal Malaysian Customs Department will enforce the collection of anti-dumping duties on the import of biaxially oriented polypropylene (BOPP) from Taiwan, Thailand, China, Indonesia and Vietnam for five years beginning April 23, 2013.
The move comes after the International Trade and Industry Ministry (MITI) conducted and completed detailed investigation on producers and importers in Malaysia as well as producers/exporters of the BOPP films in the alleged countries.
It said the government initiated the anti-dumping investigation based on a petition filed by San Miguel Yamamura Plastic Films Sdn Bhd which alleged that imports of BOPP from these countries Were brought in at a price much lower than the price in the domestic market of the alleged countries.
The petitioner also claimed that this was causing material injury to the domestic industry in Malaysia, a MITI statement said.
“With the imposition of anti-dumping duties on imports of BOPP from the alleged countries, it is expected that the issue of unfair trade practices will be addressed.
“In order to enhance the implementation of anti-dumping duties, the government may review the possibility of introducing measures to verify the BOPP products which have been excluded from anti-dumping duties,” the statement added.
