Indonesia Targets construction of 140 MW solar power plants in 2013 –Kontan

March 18 (The Insider Stories) — Indonesia’s Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry aims to kick off several solar-power projects that will generate a combined 140 megawatts of electricity this year, Kontan newsportal reported late Sunday.

Rida Mulyana, director general for renewable energy at the ministry, was quoted as saying that solar-power projects are expected to improve electricity access, particularly to people in eastern parts of the country, and to reduce reliance on costly diesel-fueled power generators.

Mr. Mulyana, who didn’t provide comparative figures with previous years, said the government will cooperate with independent power producers for the projects.
