JAKARTA (TheInsiderStories) - The Transportation Ministry and the House of Representative (DPR) have agreed to make a limited amendment on the Law No. 22, 2009 on Road Traffic and Land Transportation as a move to anticipate changes in the technology utilization in the land public transportation.

One of the key point of the amendment is related with the presence and growing of the online-based transportation means, including motorcycles which serve customers by using mobile applications. The limited amendment is needed to provide certainty to the mobile-apps based motorcycle transportation services and prevent unclear regulations that could spark clashes in the society.

The Transportation Ministry also revised the Ministerial Decree (Permenhub) No. 32, 2016 to accommodates the use of mobile-apps public transportation means, other than regular public transportation means.

With these changes, the online-based and conventional transportation modes can grow together and co-exist. The deliberation on the amendment of the law will begin in April 1. (*)
